desk questions for this state

  • Does cargo-carried include motor vehicles, and what is the actual truck capacity for this dispatch?
  • Does motor-truck cargo cover the units, naming this motor carrier?
  • Inoperable or oversized units disclosed and accepted in writing?
  • If the dispatch is into Ontario, does this carrier have the right authority for that portion?
  • Legal name on the rate con matches L&I?

stop and do not cover

  • Van or flatbed MC covering cars they cannot haul.
  • No vehicle cargo coverage, only BI&PD.
  • Canada delivery with only a U.S. docket and no answer on the Canadian portion.
  • Name mismatch or inactive L&I.

class 4 is a hint, not a nine-car

MCS-150 cargo class 4 (motor vehicles) does not tell you stinger versus six-car versus nine-car, inoperable units, or enclosed versus open. Ask capacity against the dispatch.

A van MC that “can grab a car-hauler” is a different cover. The rate con names the motor carrier that will haul the units.

cargo for the cars, not the bmc-91

Open-deck auto haulers typically carry motor-truck cargo covering the units. That is not the $750,000 BI&PD filing. Named insured must be the MC on the dispatch. Auction contracts often have per-unit deductibles — read them.

Inoperable, oversized, or modified vehicles need an explicit equipment conversation before you cover.

detroit–windsor is a border, not a census field

Loads that cross at the Ambassador Bridge or the tunnel are international moves. That can add customs paperwork and, for the carrier, the right operating authority for the Canada portion. FMCSA U.S. authority is not a Canada grant. Ask before you book a Windsor delivery as if it were Dearborn.

Plant and auction vendor lists are access control. They do not replace L&I.
